Excellent video. Worth taking the time to watch!
I try my best to ONLY use a router table. I find using free routers (both full-sized and trim routers) to be like trying to guide a ravenous flesh-eating gyroscope. A large (usually shop-made) base with good handles and plenty of bearing surface is a must. Even then, I only break out the router when I can't reasonably find a different method for a task. And that's rare.
What router lift is being used in the table?
Love the video, thank you!
I'm about to build a table and would love a couple pointers:
- Do you insert shelf boards in the cabinet to aid dust collection? I see the supports.
- Can you give a link to that amazing router lift?
-Thanks!
Terrific set of videos! I already do a fair amount with my router table, but I learned some great tricks here. Thanks.
I agree 100% with Bob's recommendation to avoid climb cuts. The only time I've experienced a power tool related injury in 20 years was performing a light climb cut on some curly maple. The 12" long work piece shot off the table putting a hole in the sheet rock on the wall, and allowing my left thumb to graze the spinning bit before I could fully react and step back from the table. Never again!
I fully agree with Bob's comments on keeping the fence system simple. I have/had a WoodPecker Super Fence and it drove me absolutely nuts. I could not get the two fence halves co-planer no matter what I tried. I milled up a solid piece of of ash and used the two clamps as shown in the video. It works great. The Super Fence is on Craig's list.
Thanks Bob, Great Class, best 90 minutes I've spent in a while.
I’m on a Transatlantic flight with streaming internet on the plane, so I’m doing a Van Dyke-fest. I love Bob’s style, no BS. If you’re expecting safe-space therapy with your woodworking, don’t watch Bob Van Dyke.
Good video, but...........if the captions were over in the corner rather than in the middle, the subject of discussion would be visible.
You can turn the captions off if you like.
Thank you Bob, mis your classes and demos at the Northeastern Woodworkers Association now in Albany.
